This 2 day (initial) course will teach your team the legislation in an easily understandable way, what you are able to do in high risk environments and how to set up and supervise the space. (Revalidation is 1 day).

How to deal with emergencies and escape wearing breathing apparatus (like firefighters).

Learn practically in our training rig:- how to gas monitor the space, enter, supervise using tripods, davits and ventilation equipment.


  •  Definitions, Risks, and Hazards, Risk Assessments, Safe Systems of Work, and Permits to Work
  • Procedures for Entry, Environmental Monitoring and Ventilation
  • PPE and additional level 3 associated equipment, Emergency Escape Breathing Apparatus and
  • Self-Contained Breathing Apparatus
  • Emergency procedures, practical confined space entry and self-rescue scenarios


The course will enable delegates to

  • Identify specified risks and hazards to classify confined spaces
  • Understand confined space risk assessments, safe systems (method statements) and permits
  • Have a sound understanding of environmental monitoring and ventilation
  • Be confident in the use of gas monitoring and detection equipment
  • Understand work restraint and fall arrest, including the use of a harness and lanyard
  • Understand the use of davits, tripods and winches for access and egress
  • Follow procedures to safely enter, work in and exit level 3 confined spaces
  • Use PPE and level 3 associated equipment correctly and safely
  • Be confident in the use of respiratory protection, self-contained and escape breathing apparatus
  • Be able to undertake the role of the confined space supervisor (top person)
  • Understand procedures for and be confident dealing with emergencies
