This half day course will teach your team the legislation in an easily understandable way, where questions can be asked, and advice freely given to help your team determine if the space is a “confined” under the regulations.
Whether or not it is a confined space, a suitable risk assessment and some control measures can be a good idea anyway.
For example, signage to inform people, a record of entrants, or physically locking the space may help.
During a walk around the factory, an operative shows a photo to the directors and asks, “Is that a confined space?”
Yes – it looks extreme, but the question still stood…
None of the Directors could give a clear answer whether it was a confined space… or whether it was just a restricted space.
The MD decided that herself, as well as the rest of her team, should at least know the basics as the leaders of the company. This was her responsibility!
The maintenance team of a university estates department have heard a little about confined spaces.
They know some might be dangerous or they could just be small.
The team don’t really know the difference…
but with so many spaces on such a large site (that most people don’t even know about), they all agree it would be a good idea to understand more to ensure everyone works safely.
At a mid-level Health & Safety meeting, the team of supervisors and managers discuss whether the new hatch covers and construction of a new pit beneath the assembly line may be a confined space.
The team agree that they all need more information before they can make an informed decision.
